Everyone always asks me, how long does it take to get in shape? Or, do you have any quick weight loss tips? What can I do to look good, FAST?!

Well, I have a confession to make. I began exercising because I had the same questions myself. My priority was looking good - and getting there fast.

I grunted through grueling weight routines, sweated through miles of intense long-distance runs, and forced my body to conform to the image of the perfect male body that had been sold to me over years of exposure to the modern world.

I even taught my personal fitness coaching clients to do the same. And it worked great! They became strong and shapely. Lean and mean. I can honestly say, we looked good!

But over the years, I began to notice a pattern emerge. For all their hard work, they weren't any happier as people. And, frankly, neither was I.

That just didn't make any sense to me.

What good is a beautiful body, if you walk around with a frown!

Then I figured it out! I had it all turned around.

The health of my body was important - but my happiness was even more important!

I started to ask different questions, . . . how could I use my exercise to elevate my state of mind? How could I change from stressed out and tense to relaxed and content, through movement?

It was then that I discovered something that to this day seems so unbelievably simple, so central to our very existence as physical beings that everyone should know it:

Our bodies reflect our state of mind!!! And our minds reflect our state of body!!!

I realized I was exercising the wrong way!

My endless repetitions in the weight room, the countless miles I had endured on those hot sweaty hikes under the desert sun, the pull-ups, push-ups, sit-ups, made me look good, but I was stiff and sore.

My stressed-out, tense state of mind was simply reflecting this!

I had been asking the wrong questions! It wasn't about rushing to get in shape or quick weight loss tips. Those methods didn't work for long and they just made me more tense and stressed out.

It was then that I started exercising to take care of my state of mind. I learned to balance my strength with flexibility, my cardiovascular exercise with conscious relaxation, and I began to work on greater coordination and control over every aspect of my body.

Since then I've spent years refining my methods. I've learned as much from the laboratory of my own body as I have from each and every one of the hundreds of personal fitness coaching clients and yoga students I have helped achieve their goals.

And I can honestly say, I feel great! I wake-up each morning and exercise as a way to feel my best throughout the rest of the day. I feel energized. I feel alert. I feel prepared for whatever challenge comes my way. And the best part of all is, the look I was after in the first place, just comes along with it!
